Adele provides both one-to-one sessions and small group sessions of up to 6 children (with carers present). These sessions are intended for children who have been labled with developmental and cognitive differences:
ADD & ADHD: These children struggle to concentrate and focus. The combination of breathing methods and poses helps attention-deficit children develop greater body awareness, emotional balance and concentration, increasing their capacity for both school work and creative play. Regular practice - is the key for these children to get the most out of yoga, at least a couple of time a week.
Dyslexia/Dyspraxia: These children have difficulty operating both hemispheres of the brain in unison. The educational system is currently left brain orientated (logical side) and many of these children use only their right brain (the creative side). Certain yoga postures and movements help to activate and connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain.
Down's Syndrome: Breathing techniques used with these children can improve the central nervous system and help develop body awareness, concentration and memory. Yoga postures also stabilize joints, boost integrity in the connective tissue and build muscle strength and tone.
Autism: Yoga can help these children to feel more connected to their bodies. It also enhances motor skills and improves communication abilities. Perhaps most importantly yoga has the capacity to improve the child's self-esteem and help them to cope in a chaotic world.
Cerebral Palsy: Yoga helps these children through breathing, stretching and realignment of the spine. This releases muscular tension and enhances overall nerve function, which gives the child more movement, co-ordination and flexibility.
These yoga sessions are centered around a calming yin style yoga in order to re-align the body and reduce tension whilst calming the mind.
Chanting and music is used alongside breathing techniques which help to re-set the nervous system and return the body in to it's natural relaxed state from where it can begin to heal itself.
Sessions last approximately half an hour.
